CME Exchange Sees XRP Futures Hit $1 Billion Faster Than Bitcoin and Ethereum
CME Group's crypto futures complex has surpassed $30 billion in notional open interest for the first time, with XRP and SOL futures each exceeding $1 billion. XRP futures set a new speed record, reaching the $1 billion milestone in just over three months—faster than Bitcoin and ethereum contracts.
The acceleration is notable. On August 18, XRP futures hit an all-time high of over 6,000 contracts, with 251,000 contracts traded and $9.02 billion in notional volume since launch. The sustained participation suggests strong institutional interest rather than a fleeting spike.
Timing played a key role. CME announced XRP futures on April 24, launching standard and micro contracts on May 19. The cash-settled structure and dual-size design broadened accessibility, contributing to rapid adoption.
